Greetings to my readers!
I have been quite busy with some personal matters recently. One of the personal matters was taking a short vacation. As such I have not had much time to write a full regarding anything of substance.
With that said, I’ll share a few details about my break.
Traveling during Obon
Last year I took a short trip to Yamanashi Prefecture during Obon 2024. Unfortunately millions of people had exactly the same idea, so to avoid the crowds this year I decided to take my summer vacation BEFORE the Obon period and go somewhere a bit different.
To Izu!
I’ve been spending a lot of time in Shizuoka recently. I ran the Izu Trail Journey last December, ran the Shuzuoka Marathon in March, and ran from Tokyo to Numazu in April (Yagurazawa Ōkan). This time I decided to go on a bit more of a relaxed trip, staying around Higashi Izu.
On the first day I drove down to the penninsula taking a stop at 大室山 (Mt Omuro). This is a grassy mountain with a chair lift leading to the top (no climbing allowed). There was a nice view of the area and a 1 km walking course around the crater of the mountain. The cool breeze at the top was very welcome.
On day two I took a trip to Izu Animal Kingdom. One of the main draws of this zoo is the fact that it’s a walking safari park where you can interact directly with the animals. Probably my favorite part of this park is the capybara enclosure. You can just go in and pet them. Most chill animal on earth.
I had a pretty relaxing day on the way back. I just spent some time at the beach then drove home.
Taking a few days to unwind is good for your spirit. Please note that I didn’t slack off on my running during my trip. I was staying in a rental villa on the side of a mountain and took the opportunity to get some elevation training in. On the morning of the second and the third day I ran 5km up the mountain and then 5km back down. I don’t have so many mountains immediately where I live so it seemed like a good opportunity to get some good training in.
