An unwinnable game
Just don't play
Quick one today
As much as possible I try to release an article every week. This one is going to be a very short one due to personal commitments.
Double standards
One thing I’m sure many people have noticed are a lot of people with double standards in the world. One version of this was beautifully summarized in the comic below:
This can all basically be summed up by ‘it’s ok when we do it.’ People, tribes, cliques, can do one thing and be totally ok with it, but when other people engage in exactly the same actions, it is totally unacceptable and will be labeled as such. One to one comparisons, exist the bias of the individual doing the description produces totally different results.
Recognizing that this bias exists is important. It is also important to know that people like this are simply not worth listening to. Mostly because they cannot be reasoned with.
The ‘standards’ of unreasonable critics
While it is frustrating to watch people criticize others for doing exactly the same thing they do, it is also quite frustrating to see people critique others from a point of total ineptitude.
People who cannot run may criticize your running. People who cannot throw a punch may criticize your martial arts. People who have achieved nothing in their lives may criticize you for your achievements.
This is not real criticism. It is just noise. There is no way to meet the standards of people who criticize you like this because they do not even meet their owns “standards.” It’s a totally unwinnable game and as such it isn’t worth playing with such people.
Be careful who you listen to
Some people are out there simply to throw you off your game. Don’t let them do it.
Don’t take criticism from people you wouldn’t go to for advice.
Final thought
Don’t let bad actors set the standards. They are not playing a game that is winnable.
Osu!
